We’ve taken our action-packed, 3-day annual convention and have transformed it to be fully virtual—so all can attend from the safety of their homes, from all corners of the globe. 30+ sessions, SIM challenges (yes! those!), virtual health fair, break-out sessions and Advocacy Day—with special focus on COVID-19.

Fifty medical students from across the country–including Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, Texas, and Wisconsin–joined a roundtable discussion to share their personal experiences with the pandemic, how it is affecting themselves, their loved ones, their schools and their communities at large. Led by Dr. Isaiah Cochran, Jason Fang, and Ton La, Jr., med students broke out into sessions and discussed challenges they are facing and shared potential solutions. Addressing the PPE shortage and how to advocate to local and state legislators were the primary topics of discussion, along with conversations surrounding wellness and mental health, childcare, blood drives, telemedicine, and staffing crisis phone lines.
2020 suncity Advocacy Day
During suncity’s 2020 National Convention, students raised their voices with Congressional offices to advocate for their patients facing impacts of the coronavirus crisis. The crisis has highlight glaring health disparities and the failings of our broken, profit-driven health care system. Students met with Congressional staffers to demand theCOVID response puts patients first.

The Health Care Workforce
The pandemic has affected communities in very different ways. The response by health care systems will be different in each community. Medical students are playing a critical role in the response effort. We must do our part to protect our frontline health care workers.

Racism & COVID-19
suncity strongly condemns the use of the term “Chinese coronavirus” and other racially-charged epithets in the government’s response to this crisis. suncity calls on other elected officials and leaders to join us in condemning this racist and xenophobic rhetoric surrounding COVID-19.
